Jobs at Proseed
Every year we need casual workers (at times indicated below) to help us with our seasonal operations.
At peak season we need as many as 100 persons to maintain our orchard.
All our orchard operations are conducted from the ground. Because our orchard trees are kept pruned short there is no need for climbing or ladders.
We are very happy to accomodate flexible hours for those who must work around families etc.
We need people for:
Pruning (various times)
Trimming small limbs and branches using handsaws, pruners, and secateurs.
Grafting (mid-June thru August)
We will teach you to graft bud material from the New Zealand radiata pine breeding programme onto seedling rootstock for planting into our orchard. Work is outdoors and in all weather except rain. Warm clothing and wet weather gear is essential.
Bagging (July thru October)
Fitting and maintaining pollination bags onto our grafted orchard trees. Special Tyvec bags are put over developing flowers and tied with twisty ties. The bags protect flowers from wild pollen so we can make our own contolled crosses with our own pollen. This season we expect to fit 300,000 bags in our orchard!
